Teotihuacan: Hot air balloon ride over the pyramids
Teotihuacan is one of the most impressive and best preserved ancient cities in the world and an absolute must for anyone interested in history and culture. The city is located about 50 kilometers northeast of Mexico City and is one of the most important archaeological centers in Mexico.
Founded in the 1st century BC, Teotihuacan reached its peak in the 5th and 6th centuries AD. The city was the center of an advanced and influential civilization known for its pyramids, temples, and palaces. Today, most of the structures remain, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the architecture and life of the period.
The center of the city is dominated by two large pyramids, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, which are among the largest pyramidal structures in the world. The Pyramid of the Sun is over 60 meters high and offers incredible views of the surrounding area. The Pyramid of the Moon is smaller but equally impressive and offers insight into the cosmological and religious beliefs of the Teotihuacans.
In addition to the pyramids, Teotihuacan has many other attractions, including the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, the Temple of the Sun, and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. The city is also known for its impressive murals and intricate stone carvings that will amaze visitors.
If you are looking for a cultural experience in Mexico, Teotihuacan is a must-see. The city is a historical and cultural gem that will transport you to a bygone world and amaze you with its beauty and elegance.
Hot air balloon ride over the pyramids:
The ruined city itself is worth a visit, but we wanted to do something special. You can also take a hot air balloon ride over the pyramids and watch the sunrise. I was a bit nervous because I had never done anything like that before.
There are many companies that offer this tour and some will even pick you up at your hotel. We drove and left at 5am to get there before sunrise. When we arrived, the balloons were being inflated and the sleepy tourists started arriving one by one.
It started pretty quickly and we climbed into the basket. There were two of us and a family of three joined us. We flew higher and higher step by step and I have to say I was nervous because I had never done anything like that before.
We climbed a little at a time and then waited a while. We continued like this until we were relatively high up. You quickly get used to the feeling and are distracted by the incredible view anyway.
After the excitement and unforgettable experience, we were hungry and went to the restaurant "La Gruta", which is nearby and one of my highlights every time I go to Teotihuacán. It is a restaurant in a grotto and you can easily find vegan food.
